Thanks, Peter. Many doctor/writers -- Chekhov, for one -- have written about being paid for their services in kind rather than cash. You are part of a long and admirable tradition. Two traditions, actually. Nicely done.
Nice to get this in my inbox. Thanks. I read somewhere that for a gift to have real meaning there has to be a sacrifice involved - it appears you got a real gift.
Beautifully and simply told, Peter - and very touching. It reads almost like a biblical parable or folk tale: "Three Precious Eggs" - a story of generosity, and gratitude.
Who needs a two hour movie when you can read a Peter Newman Substack in about two minutes and come away with many of the same sensations after leaving the theatre. They're informative, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, lots of action, always full of color and oh so vivid. It's like being right there with him in the trenches, or the exam room in his office. Bravo my dear friend. BTW, with all you've accomplished, I have a question ... when do you sleep? 🙂
What a lovely story, Peter! Isn't it amazing how to us right now, three eggs seem like very little, but you understood the value of what he was offering at that time in that place and acknowledged his generous gesture by accepting the gift. A great memory for you, I'm sure.
Thank you Peter for sharing another one of your stories. They are always interesting, and beautifully written.

What a sweet story. I can’t wait for the book.
Very touching story. Thanks Peter.
Another wonderful story, Peter!
Wonderful story. So uplifting.
A lovely story, beautifully told, Peter. And how were the eggs? Scrambled, I assume. Hugh

Gratitude takes different forms. You might have received the chickens.
sometimes accepting the gift of someone else’s sacrifice is harder than giving care, and sustenance in the first place.
What charming story of a poignant moment, well earned by you, pter, for all the good work you have done. Thanks for sharing your experience!
